March 19, 2021

Saturday marks the first day of spring and we’re celebrating with music of the Celtic variety this Saturday.   As the season of renewal begins, we would also like to know your opinion on what we’re doing right (or wrong) and how we can improve our offerings during the upcoming season.

This Saturday afternoon, March 20th from 5:00 until 7:00, we plan to welcome Spring  with Celtic music performed by Elias Alexander.  Elias led us in song last Sunday for our annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon and kept us in tune with his fiddle and bagpipes.  This Saturday, we have asked Elias to set the tone for Vintage 2021 with the most favored instruments of Ireland and Scotland for a couple of happy hours, inspired by the prospect of new growth and warmer days.

Spring is not only the beginning of the growing season, it is a time for Helvetia Winery to begin our season of welcoming guests to our wines and our venue with new releases, unique events, and outdoor activities.  We want and need to hear your views so we can include them in our plans for 2021 and beyond.  The survey below is anonymous and takes between 5 and 10 minutes to complete.

Along with budbreak in late April, you can expect the release of our 2020 rosés of pinot noir, sangiovese, and merlot. Stop by for your own break.  In March, we are open daily from noon to 5pm and in April, we plan to extend our closing time to 6pm. As noted below, we are also offering tours of the winery with a tasting, Wednesday through Sunday.

Thank you,

An Evening in Espa̱a Р2018-06-16T18:00:00

Helvetia Winery and Jimmy Carrasquer join for the second time to create a winemaker dinner . . .

Jimmy's paella

Paella, the signature dish of Spain, has been a tradition in Jimmy’s family for generations. Family gatherings have long centered around making and eating paella. Jimmy first made paella nearly twenty years ago. He learned the technique from his Tia and Tío at their humble cottage in the Valencian countryside. He started preparing paella at home for a few guests and was soon catering friend’s parties just for fun. Before long he put his high-tech career on hold to make paella full-time. And thus, PDX Paella was born!

“I just have to tell you that the Paella you made us was FABULOUS! You were so much fun to watch and the Paella was absolutely delicious. I will definitely recommend you to all of my friends and coworkers!! “Muchas Gracias” Yelp Review – Ethan

On Saturday June 16th at 6pm, we invite you to join us for a special paella winemaker dinner. Dinner includes Paella, side salad and bread. Seating will be under the beautiful summer sky and wine will be available for purchase.

Burning the Böög

Each year, the good citizens of Zurich mark the end of winter and the coming of spring by burning a snowman effigy in the town square.  On Sunday, April 8, the Portland Swiss Association will host the Helvetia version on the Jakob Yungen House grounds with Swiss music and lots of visits among the good neighbors of Die Schweizer Kolonie Helvetia.  Pull out your lederhosen und trachten and mark your calendars.
